Christ Church Neighborhood House

Designed by architect Ralph E. White, the Christ Church Neighborhood House at 20 N. American Street harmonizes with the Georgian architecture of its neighbor to the east, Christ Church, one of the most important Georgian buildings in the US. The building typifies the high-style Georgian vein of Colonial Revival architecture.

Neighborhood House was built c. 1910 and an addition, Washburn House, was built 1932-33 in a complimentary style. The buildings were renovated around 2010 when the atrium entrance was added to link the two buildings.

In addition to housing the Christ Church Parish and Preservation Trust offices, Neighborhood House serves as a center for the arts. The former gym on the 3rd floor hosts Fringe Festival events as well as performances from other theater and dance companies. The Neighborhood House also hosts community events, site specific art installations and sponsors the Wednesday Farmer's Market next to the church.
